Gawker, the former “today’s gossip is tomorrow’s news” online site, got into some hot water when it published Hulk Hogan’s sex tape. During what Hollywood Reporter called a “heated” questioning session toward the end of the questioning of former Gawker editor AJ Daulerio. This is what went down between him and Hogan’s legal representative:
- Lawyer: “Mr. Bollea’s penis had no news value, right?”
- Daulerio: “No.”
- Lawyer: “It wasn’t newsworthy, right?”
- Daulerio: “No.”
- Lawyer: “There was no news value to showing them having sex?”
- Daulerio: “No, not necessarily.”
However, Daulerio insisted that he was making “social commentary” about celebrity sex tapes, arguing that public figures lead different lives.
Daulerio was also questioned about an attention-getting statement he made in his taped deposition, which was shown to the jury last week, about where exactly he’d draw the line in terms of sex tapes he’d consider publishing.
(His answer: sex tapes of children under the age of 5.)
When he was questioned about his remark, Daulerio said he was being sarcastic after “a very long day” and that it’s not his view in reality.
Hogan is suing for $100 million over invasion of privacy.
