If you’ve grown up in Cape Town, or are at least familiar with it, you’ll know that there has been a concerted effort on the city’s part to improve certain districts.
One such area is Woodstock, a section of the city that wasn’t always viewed with a favourable outlook. That’s all changing though, the Woodstock Improvement District and a number of exciting building developments turning it into a hipster hangout that is now thriving.
We can thank the Biscuit Mill for much of that, some of Cape Town’s finest beards and knitted beanies on display, but we shouldn’t forget about the Woodstock Exchange.
Once you step inside the WEX it’s clear to see why this is such a popular haunt. Take Wolf & Maiden for example, whose catalogue encompasses the funkiest range of leather accessories you’ll find going around.
Then there’s the SAE Institute, offering courses in the fields of Animation, Film Making and Sound Production. This always ensures there’s a buzz about the place, as well as a healthy amount of hip hop talk.
On the whole, the Exchange is home to a host of creative and funky businesses, meaning it has quickly become a go-to for like-minded individuals and startups who want to make the move to the area. Just check out The Bureaux, who offer single desk spaces for as little as R1 500 a month and offices for R5 500.
If you happen to be in the area pop in at the Woodstock Exchange, grab a bite to eat at Superette and engage in some top notch people watching – we won’t judge, we’ve been doing it for years.
