Dante Terrell Smith / Mos Def / Yasiin Bey appeared yesterday at Bellville’s Magistrate Court in relation to the incident earlier this year when he presented a “World Passport” while attempting to “legally” fly out of the country.
However, when he rocked up to court, he was wearing a turban and was turned away because he refused to remove it. The Muslim hip hop artist, actor, and activist then left and returned later with a loose scarf around his head and shoulders which then allowed a security search.
Bey faces charges including “false identity” and “aiding and abetting his family to stay illegally in South Africa”. Prosecutors requested a two-week postponement to 24 March, and he is on bail of R5 000.
