There’s nothing wrong with watching a spot of cricket and playing a five-a-side in the back garden at the same time, but the same doesn’t necessarily ring true when you’re watching a UFC fight.
This weekend was of course the highly-anticipated Connor McGregor and Nate Diaz fight, and the excitement was too much for some Aussie fans to handle. Here’s the NZ Herald:
[The fight] spilled out onto the street outside the Ritz Hotel in Hurstville, south of Sydney, on Sunday at about 5pm.
The massive fight, which involved up to 50 people, is believed to have started with an argument inside the hotel during the UFC broadcast.
Footage of the brawl shows people sprawled on the street as groups of people continue fighting.
Two 17-year-old boys were found by police with injuries. One of the boys was taken to St George Hospital to be treated for a fractured eye socket.
The other boy was found to be suffering bruising to his forehead.
The only person arrested so far is a 15-year-old girl who was using offensive language.
She has since been released and will receive a youth caution, with police saying the investigation is still ongoing.
All that brawling and the only arrest made was for foul language – come on ‘Stralia, you can do better than that. Then again, given that it was only two weeks ago around 100 youths brawled a petrol station in the city perhaps we are giving you too much credit.
