As it becomes increasingly likely that the Republican Party’s presidential hopes will rest on Donald Trump, fellow politicians are becoming restless.
That includes members of the Republican Party themselves, with the man who ran against Obama back in 2012 the latest to lend his voice to those speaking out against Trump.
Before we get stuck in here let me just remind you that if you haven’t yet seen John Oliver’s Trump takedown (HERE) you need to do yourself that favour.
Anyway Romney’s full attack is 17 minutes, although if you’re pressed for time some highlights below from Hollywood Reporter:
Romney called Trump…a “con man” and “a fake.”
“If we Republicans chose Donald Trump as our nominee, the prospects for a safe and prosperous future are greatly diminished,” he said. “Donald Trump is a phony, a fraud. His promises are as worthless as a degree from Trump University”…
The former Massachusetts governor took issue with Trump’s “personal qualities,” including “the bullying, the greed, the showing off, the misogyny and the absurd third-grade antics…Imagine your children and grandchildren acting like Trump,” he added. ..
“Watch by the way how he responds to my speech today,” said Romney, noting Trump’s penchant for personal insults. “Will he talk about our policy differences or will he attack me with every imaginable low-road insult?”
Which leads us nicely onto the next part – just how did Donald respond? Here’s the Daily Beast:
I am not a fan of Barack Obama and that was a race that I backed Mitt Romney, I backed him, you can see how loyal he is,” Trump said. “He was begging for my endorsement. I could have said, Mitt, drop to your knees, he would have dropped to his knees, he was begging. He was begging me.” At another point, he railed against Romney as a “choke artist” and said “chickened out” of running again in 2016.
Looks like you nailed that prediction too, Mitt, it’s just a pity that your countryfolk are so easily won over by the bluster and bravado of a man so obviously unqualified for the presidency.
