There’s another right mess over at UCT, cleaning staff arriving at five separate building on campus today finding sewage had been dumped onto the property in the early hours this morning.
The university has already released a statement on the matter, saying the culprits were a small group who entered the Robert Leslie Social Science, Robert Leslie Commerce, Menzies, Beattie and Chemical Engineering buildings at the crack of dawn. Over to News24:
“It is regrettable that this action of a few people is putting an extra burden on cleaning and security staff as well as creating a health hazard for anyone who enters these buildings,” the university’s spokesperson Kylie Hatton said in a statement.
Campus security and traffic officers are now monitoring all entrances to UCT to ensure safe access for students and staff members.
If you’re thinking it may have been the work of a certain Chumani Maxwele, the man at the centre of the Cecil John Rhods statue being covered in turd, you’ll have to wrack your brain a little harder as he has already denied any involvement.
I wonder if those responsible intend on helping out the cleaning staff at all, who must now slog away to make the buildings fit for the students once more.
