There were days during last year’s Fees Must Fall protests that you feared for the safety of everyone involved in the protests. Take for example these five videos from one day back in October (HERE), when things were perhaps close to their peak.
Well today is one such day for students and protesters alike at both the University of Free State (UFS) and TUKS. We’ve already shown you some of the more frightening videos (HERE and HERE, if you haven’t yet had a look you need to), so here’s the latest at what’s happening across both campuses.
First up we’ll look at UFS and the EFF protesters marching, during which time they have defaced the CR Swart statue on campus and damaged other property:
Over in Pretoria AfriForum are marching to preserve Afrikaans as a medium of teaching at the institution. Some pictures from that march:
We should be relieved that these two marches are taking place on different campuses, a coming together between the two would almost certainly lead to bloodshed given the current tension levels.
You get the feeling this may only just have begun.
