In the country where we live it pays to have a plan should you find yourself faced by someone wielding a gun. Mine is well mapped out, but generally speaking it involves the exact opposite of trying to be a hero.
Not that Darren Baker, a 48-year-old grandfather from Norwich in the UK plays by those rules. As you can see from that video up top he didn’t take kindly to the man threatening his wife with a sawn off shotgun, with the Daily Mail having this to say:
CCTV footage of the incredible encounter was released by Norfolk Police after Stephen Lawrence, 54, also from Norwich, was jailed for 11 years…
The father-of-four and grandfather-of-three then wrestled Lawrence to the floor and yanked the helmet off his head.
He subdued the robber until police arrived at the shop…
Speaking after Lawrence’s sentencing at Norwich Crown Court, he told the Eastern Daily Press: ‘It was nice to come and see the end of it.
‘I think he got his just desserts. I’m pleased we got him off the streets and my wife can get on with her life because she’s still been having affects.
‘We can now get on with our lives and go forward.’
For their act of bravery, Mr Baker and his wife were awarded £300 each by Judge Maureen Bacon.
Call me a yellow-belly but I ain’t risking my life for R6 500.
