If rubbernecking at the law in action is your idea of a good time then you may have been following the live feed of Radovan Krejcir’s trial all day.
I would give you the link to it but it turns out court has been adjourned a little early today, just the small matter of a bomb threat forcing the shutting down of the High Court in Johannesburg.
As of yet details remain sketchy but here’s what we can tell you according to News24:
There’s a bomb threat in the building, says News24’s reporter on scene Mpho Raborife. Krejcir and co have been taken downstairs and everyone in the public gallery have been asked to leave the court.
The news of the bomb threat came soon after Krejcir made another appeal to have his chains removed.
This tweet from eNCA legal journalist Karyn Maughan:
Krejcir arrived without a lawyer today, deciding to contest his conviction for attempted murder, kidnapping and dealing in drugs without legal representation. That didn’t turn out so well, with this below from IOL:
Krejcir fired his lawyer Nardus Grove before sentencing could get under way.
The Czech fugitive, who appeared with his five co-accused, then unsuccessfully tried to have Judge Colin Lamont recuse himself. He alleged bias, dishonesty and thta the judge was part of a conspiracy against him…
Krejcir said Lamont should recuse himself because the judge had thought he had wanted to kill him after Lamont had had an incident on his way home.
“Why will I try to kill you? Why would you only mention my name when there are other accused?” Krejcir asked.
He denied being involved in any plot to kill the judge.
If you want to know more about poorly thought out plot check HERE, a few gaping holes shutting that one down pretty promptly.
We’ll let you know more as news filters through.
