So what does one do when one wins a third of the biggest lottery in recorded history? I’d probably be locked up by now, although some people are able to exercise a remarkable degree of self-restraint.
That $1,6 billion lottery had three winning tickets, and only now have a couple from Florida come forward with details of their $528.7 million win.
The story below from NY Daily News:
Powerball winners David Kaltschmidt, 55, and Maureen Smith, 70, kept everyone in the dark until last week about their life-altering win — even their two children.
“That was hard,” Smith said in Tallahassee Wednesday. “We are not going to go party. We are still going to live the same lives,” added Kaltschmidt…
Smith’s former son-in-law bemoaned his breakup with her daughter, Denise Fiore, after hearing about their big bucks win.
“I’m pissed, I could’ve hit the mother lode!” joked Joey Delgado, 51, of Clifton, N.J. “I should’ve stayed married to Denise! I’m in shock, I’m just blown away!”
The couple divorced 12 years ago. “In all seriousness, that’s awesome, I’m happy for them,” he said. “They’re good people. It’s going to a good couple.”
That’s nice but come on Joey, you know you’re hurting.
The winning numbers – 4, 8, 19, 27, 34 with a Powerball of 10 – were the same numbers Maureen has been playing for years. How do they intend to spend it then?
They reached out to financial experts and decided to take the $327,800,000 lump sum before taxes.
Kaltschmidt said he’s retiring from his mechanical engineer job at Northrop Grumman and buying a new truck to replace one falling apart. Otherwise, the duo vowed not to let the windfall alter their day-to-day lives.
“Instead of designing airplanes I’m going to be doing charities, tax strategies and investments,” he said.
Asked what her first splurge will be, [Maureen] responded, “I want to get a massage.”
I think that can be arranged.
You know what that means good people, it means you should be buying tickets regularly and sticking to your guns. That Powerball has climbed back up to $212 million (R3,3 billion), so if you want to join these real (and now really rich) people then buy yours HERE.
