By now I’m sure you’re aware that there’s a bit of a scene going on over at UCT. We gave you the full run through yesterday HERE, best you check that out to get up to speed.
Now it has emerged that one of the eight people arrested, six of whom are registered for this year’s studies and two who are not, happens to be the son of Eskom CEO Brian Molefe. He posted bail for several of the activists before speaking to TimesLive:
“I am here as a parent to support my son. I have no opinion of the protests. I was a student activist too‚” he said outside the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court.
Eight students were released on bail of R1000 each‚ and one on R800…
Molefe said his son’s arrest “builds character” and that it would “spark intellectual debate”.
Not that those released are expecting a hero’s welcome when they return to UCT, a female student outlining what’s in store:
She said she has been in hiding because private security guards were asking around for her on campus since after the protest.
“I had to walk around in disguise and change my clothes at the Jammie shuttle‚” she said.
I guess those guards don’t like it when students torch one of the university’s shuttle buses and burn historical paintings.
Bloody agents.
