It’s been a while since we’ve heard about a Cape Town jewellery store heist, although I guess it was only a matter of time until the roving gang of robbers struck again.
Yesterday morning it was the jewellery shop Triggs that was the victim, located in Cavendish Square, which is the second time in six months that the store has been hit. According to reports staff were held at gunpoint and a smoke bomb was released, set off by the activation of the alarm. IOL with more:
According to eye witnesses, at least four armed men barged into the store and demanded all customers to lie on the floor.
The robbers, believed to be black males, fired several shots as they left the store and made an escape.
Panicked shoppers ducked for cover as shots rang out.
The suspects escaped in a Nissan Micra. The Gauteng registration number plate was partially identified as DL86**GP.
The car’s rear window has been shattered.
The robbery took place at around 11:30 AM and it is not known just how much the bounty they made off with is worth.
