Last week saw a flight from Somalia to Djibouti disrupted by a suspected terrorist, 55-year-old Abdullahi Abdisalam Borle. Things didn’t end so well for Borle, sucked out of the aircraft at around 14 000 feet to his death whilst he only injured two others.
It appears the man managed to sneak the bomb onto the plane inside his laptop, which may finally help us understand why we need to take the thing out of the case every time we pass through an airport security check. Below from Gizmodo:
The Wall Street Journal reports that more than twenty men believed to be connected to the attack have so far been arrested. The two men posing as airline workers were identified on security camera footage in the Somali airport and were seen handing Borle a package…
“The suspects are cooperating, and we’re getting good information. We’re going to get to the bottom of it as soon as possible,” Somali government spokesperson Abdisalam Aato [said].
Some believe that the terrorist act was connected to an Islamic group known as al-Shabaab. The group is affiliated with Al Qaeda and aims to overthrow the Somali government.
Another day, another terror attack – what a right old mess.
