North Korea are kind of like that one friend who really can’t handle their hard liquor. You see them at the bar sneaking in a shot when no one is looking and you just know things are about to get messy.
Consider this rocket launch the shot that pushes them over the edge – taxi please.
Yes that is the incredibly passionate news reader we told you about last month – if you missed that you should check it out HERE – but back to the matter at hand. Gawker with a little on what all that animated talking was about:
The Kwangmyongsong carrier rocket launch was reportedly ordered by Kim Jong Un himself. The launch was described to North Koreans on the country’s state media…
“The fascinating vapour of Juche satellite trailing in the clear and blue sky in spring of February on the threshold of the Day of the Shining Star.’’
Great, that clears everything up. Despite North Korea saying that Sunday’s launch was peaceful the United Nations convened an emergency meeting, a meeting at which everyone roundly condemned Kim Jong Un and his evil actions. Below from the Washington Post:
“The members of the Security Council strongly condemn this launch,” the council said in a statement read by Rafael Ramírez, the Venezuelan ambassador at the United Nations. Dismissing the North’s claim of peaceful intent, he described the satellite launch as a provocative step toward the “development of nuclear weapons delivery systems”…
U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon [pictured below] said the launch was “deeply deplorable,” carried out “despite the united plea of the international community against such an act.”
The U.N. have long been accused of being a toothless organisation, so how exactly do they intend to curb the actions of small man syndrome sufferer Jong Un?
South Korean and U.S. military officials said Sunday that they had agreed to begin negotiations for the “earliest possible” deployment of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense [sic] (THAAD) system that uses ground-based launchers to shoot down missiles.
“North Korea continues to develop their nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs, and it is the responsibility of our alliance to maintain a strong defense against those threats,” Gen. Curtis M. Scaparrotti, commander of U.S. Forces Korea, said in a statement. “THAAD can add an important capability.”
Missile experts said the THAAD system is regarded as an effective defense against short- and medium-range missiles, meaning that it could protect South Korea from attack but would be of little use against long-range strikes, such as a missile aimed at the United States.
Let’s just hope the release of this missile is a bit of boastful chest inflating from North Korea then, if they really decide to kick into gear we are in for a right mess.
