Bloody Marys for breakfast, Cosmos for lunch and a White Russian / Big Lewbowski for dinner: your daily dietary plan for a long and healthy life.
OK so no one is going quite that far, but there are a number of recent studies that punt the benefit of a stiff vodka-based drink to the face. We’re going to run through the list over at PPC and hand pick those that hit closest to home. Remember these, they may well come in handy at a later stage:
…if you’re having an especially long night and just can’t fall asleep, try drinking vodka! Research shows that drinking it in moderate quantities can help people go to sleep without having a hangover the next day. In general, drinking the clear stuff leads to fewer hangovers than other hard liquors with more sugar in them.
Drinking vodka in moderate quantities has been scientifically proven to lower mortality rates in people. Of course, that’s a moderate consumption.
Wanna really get that blood flowing? Take a shot of vodka! Studies have shown that drinking it in moderation helps to regulate blood pressure, reduce the risk of heart attacks, and it even helps to improve your circulation.
…drinking it in moderation will reduce your risk of eventually developing Type 2 Diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease. Studies have shown that some compounds in the alcohol help to prevent deterioration of brain cells, which can help prevent Alzheimer’s. As for the Type 2 Diabetes, the lack of sugar in vodka will prevent your body from ingesting all those other kinds of sugary booze.
Drinking the clear stuff after a meal will speed up digestion, and it will also make the process of digestion more comfortable for you.
We should maybe add that there is no way ALL vodka is good for you. That cheap stuff you used to drink as a student has long been rumoured to cause blindness, and I did once drink a bottle that cost R19 back in the day and spent the next two days regretting every life choice that had led me to that decision.
It’s always better to err on the side of caution, and with quality comes the reassurance that the next day won’t go down as the darkest day of 2006. We just stick to our favourite Ketel One, which has been serving us well over the years and helped get the ball rolling on many a festive staff night out.
