It’s hard to think after a pearler of a day yesterday, a kitesurfing Guinness world record was set in the extreme wind conditions on Saturday. The Virgin Kitesurfing Armada was held in Blouberg and, within three hours of surfing – saw 415 kiters take to the water. The participants had to complete a one mile course between Dolphin Coast and Doodles.
The previous record was set in Spain in January last year when 352 kiters got together on Los Lances beach, Tarifa. Director of the Kitesurfing Armada Dan Charlish was super stoked:
We always hoped the Kitesurfing Armada in Cape Town would be spectacular – and it didn’t let us down. It was an amazing day, the wind couldn’t have been better and the view of hundreds of kiters together in front of Table Mountain was awesome. A huge thank you to everyone who came down, got involved and made the event such a success!
Supporting three charities, The Virgin Kitesurfing Armada took eighteen months of planning and preparation and did pretty well for themselves. Congrats.
