A new Kickstarter campaign for what is dubbed the Air Bonsai is killing it, raising more than three times the original aim in just five days.
That’s not surprising when you consider how radical the concept actually is, hidden magnets used to suspend the plant in mid-air. The funding campaign has already ticked over the $280 000 mark, meaning we may see these hitting the shelves sooner rather than later.
BusinessInsider with the science behind the bonsai:
Each Air Bonsai is made of two separate pieces: the “little star,” or plant portion, and the “energy base,” the Kickstarter explains. Both pieces have a built-in magnet with an opposite charge to create the floating effect and the energy base also has a rotating mechanism to make the plant spin.
As it stands you’ll still be paying a hefty fee for the privilege of owning one, the entry level selling in Japan for around $200.
Still for some that’s small change – now we wait for a celeb to tweet out a picture of their purchase and all hell breaks loose.
