Ding ding ding – Gareth Cliff ain’t going down without a fight.
Yes, the former Idols presenter is suing M-Net for R25 million for wrongful dismissal, Cliff sacked after a tweet (and subsequent lack of remorse) landed him in hot water. More from eNCA:
The radio DJ also wants to be reinstated as an Idols presenter and be part of the new season, kicking off in the next few weeks.
Cliff’s lawyer, Eric Mabuza, confirmed to eNCA that his client was suing M-Net.
“He is suing for R25-million, including for defamation of character.”
Mabuza said the station had fired Cliff without having a “proper hearing”.
Then there’s this from Channel24:
Eyebrows were also raised over the fact that Cliff’s co-judge, Somizi, did not get the boot after he was involved in a race row just a few weeks before.
“To be fired over this whole mess does seem unfair. M-Net has said as much. They said I’m not a racist,” Cliff said shortly after news first broke that he would no longer be part of the TV show.
M-Net has not officially responded to the latest reports.
