A number of gun and bomb attacks have shut down the Indonesian capital of Jakarta, gunfire and explosions continuing to ring out around the city.
So far at least six people are believed dead as explosions have rocked several prominent locations in the city. Here’s the BBC:
Police say they believe more than a dozen attackers were involved. Some are still at large and have been exchanging fire with security forces.
President Joko Widodo has called for calm but condemned the “act of terror”…
There is no indication yet of who might be behind the assault. Indonesia has been attacked by Islamist militant groups in the past and was on high alert over the new year period after threats from the so-called Islamic State.
Then there is this from News24:
ISIS issued a cryptic warning before multiple blasts hit the Indonesian capital Jakarta on Thursday, killing at least four people, police said.
National police spokesperson Anton Charliyan said it was not clear yet which group had carried out what the Indonesian president has termed “acts of terror”. But he said that ISIS issued a cryptic warning before the attacks.
“The warning said there will be a concert in Indonesia and it will be international news,” he told a local radio station
One Twitter user was on the scene and managed to film these videos:
Then there is this exchange between police and the gunmen.
