The Playboy mansion may arguably be the most famed and debauched property in America, Hugh Hefner and his merry band of bunnies having lived there for the best of 45 years.
It comes as something of a shock then that the Los Angeles property is up for sale, although it will cost the rather princely sum of $200 million (R3,4 billion). Small change if you’re winning the Powerball of course, although there is one non-negotiable catch. Over to USA Today:
Hefner, the founder of Playboy Enterprises who has lived in the home for four decades, doesn’t want to move out. His continued residence there even after the property sells is a condition of the sale, says company spokesman John Vlautin.
“If a buyer is found for the Playboy Mansion, Mr. Hefner will continue to live at the mansion for the rest of his life,” he [said]…
The property is 20,000 square feet, with 29 rooms and a four-bedroom guesthouse. The next owner will have reign over a home theater, gym, tennis court, swimming pool and even a zoo license.
If those walls could talk right? It’s also not a bad return on Hef’s investment, considering he bought the property for $1 million. But why sell though?
…the sale is a strategic decision that will allow Playboy “to continue to reinvest in the transformation of our business,” CEO Scott Flanders said in a statement.
Sounds to me like someone might have spent the money as quickly as it came through the door. No word whether or not that $200 million price includes a lifetime supply of Purell.
