A former model teamed up with her ex-FBI father to kill her husband, leaving the deceased’s two children orphaned. Molly Martens, 31, and her 65-year-old father Thomas Martens were charged with second-degree murder and voluntary manslaughter in relation to the death of father-of-two Jason Corbett.
Jason hailed from Limerick, Ireland, and shared a home in North Carolina with Molly and his two daughters from a previous marriage.
The pair met while Molly was an au pair for Corbett’s children and they eventually married in 2011, five years after Jason’s previous wife died in hospital from an apparent asthma attack.
Jason would never allow Molly to adopt his children.
A 911 call was made in August after Jason suffered fatal head injuries at his house. Here’s the first part of the transcript, supposedly made by the FBI dad, Thomas Martens, where he tells the operator he had an argument with his son-in-law and that he might now be dead:
Operator: Davidson County 911, what is the address of the emergency?
Thomas Martens: My name is Tom Martens I’m at XXX Panther Creek Court and we need help.
O: Okay, what’s going on there?
TM: My daughter’s husband, my son-in-law, got in a fight with my daughter. I intervened and I think… he’s in bad shape. We need help.
O: Okay, what do you mean he’s in bad shape, he’s hurt?
TM: He’s bleeding all over and I may have killed him.
O: Give me your address again, make sure I got it right.
TM: XXX Panther Creek Court
O: What is your name?
TM: My name is Tom Martens.
O: Alright, Tom, give me the phone number you’re calling from.
TM: I don’t know. I’m sorry. I’m the father, I’m visiting. I don’t know.
O: Was he drinking?
TM: Yes, he had been drinking during the course of the day.
Voices can be heard in the background of Tom’s call
O: Are you with him now?
TM: I am.
O: How old is he?
TM: How old is he? [Thomas asks someone in the background] 39.
O: Is he conscious at all?
TM: No.
O: Is he breathing?
TM: I can’t tell.
O: What I need you to do is I need someone to roll him onto his back, right on his back.
TM: Okay, hang on.
Molly and Thomas are now charged with second-degree murder and voluntary manslaughter in relation to Corbett’s death. At the same time, Molly is appealing the court’s decision block her from adopting the children. The second-degree murder charges could potentially mean a life sentence if they are convicted.
Hours after the indictments were released Martens took to Facebook to rant that the truth apparently ‘does not matter’.
I cannot believe the level of slander, harassment, lies and absolute utter corruption. The truth does not matter.
Shouldn’t the truth matter? Shouldn’t the truth prevail? Doesn’t anyone care about the truth?
Anyone convicted under North Carolina’s second degree murder law faces 12 years to life in prison.
