You can’t put a price on getting home safely, which is why I don’t mind the fact that I spent a decent chunk of change being ferried around town like a boss in an Uber.
The police were out in full force over the festive season and I’m sure they had their hands full, although one woman in New York has managed to beat the system thanks to an exceedingly rare medical condition. Below from Sky:
Police pulled over the 35-year-old school teacher in a Corolla with a flat tyre after she was seen driving erratically…
The responding officer said the driver smelled of alcohol, was slurring her speech, and had glassy, bloodshot eyes.
The unnamed woman was able to recite the alphabet, but had trouble with other sobriety tests, police said.
She was charged with driving while impaired.
Nothing unusual here, except for the fact that the judge dismissed the case without any illicit money changing hands.
…medical tests showed the woman had ‘auto-brewery syndrome’.
Her condition, also known as gut fermentation syndrome, involves an excess of yeast in the digestive system converting carbohydrates to alcohol.
Auto-brewery syndrome was first documented in the 1970s in Japan. Only a handful of cases have been reported around the world.
Auto-brewery syndrome, tuck that one away in the locker for use when in a pickle. Or you could be an adult about it and sign up for Uber HERE, just a thought…
