Bill Gates, America’s richest man, has a net worth of R78.9 billion. So when it comes to real estate you’d think that it’s pretty extravagant, right? Well, you’d be right. Here are some seriously extravagant facts about it:
It Took Bill Seven Years To Build It
Bill bought it back in 1989 for only $2 million, but over seven years spent an additional $63 million to build in into what it is today. Situated in Medina, Washington the estate is named ‘Xanadu 2.0’ after the fictional home of Charles Foster Kane, the title character of “Citizen Kane.”
Half a million board-feet of lumber was needed
It took 300 construction workers – 100 of whom were electricians – to build the 66 000 square foot house. Also, the lumber was 500-year-old Douglas fir trees.
Someone once paid $35,000 just to tour it
Microsoft holds an auction for charity each year, where employees donate products and services to be bid on. In the past, Gates has donated private tours worth $35 ooo. I mean, come on.
