It won’t be the inside of a cell just yet for Oscar Pistorius, the convicted murderer granted bail today in the Pretoria High Court.
Barry Roux, the former athlete’s defence advocate, indicated to the court that Pistorius will apply for leave to appeal the murder conviction. He also successfully asked the court to grant him bail while he awaits that application. Here’s TimesLive:
The state did not oppose the bail application‚ but prosecutor Gerrie Nel said Pistorius should be subjected to strict bail conditions than before because he has been convicted‚ unlike an accused person applying for bail while awaiting trial.
Deputy Judge President Aubrey Ledwaba set bail at R10 000‚ due to be paid by 4pm on Friday.
Pistorius will remain under house arrest at his uncle Arnold’s luxury home in Waterkloof‚ Pretoria‚ where he has been staying since his release from prison in October…
He may leave the house between 7am and noon and may not travel beyond 20km from his uncle’s house. He will be monitored electronically by the Department of Correctional Services.
Pistorius will appear in the high court again on April 18 to report on the status of his Constitutional Court application.
Yes, this one is still far from over.
