It’s not often that President Obama speaks directly to the people of America from the comfort of his Oval Office. Yesterday, for only the third time and prompted by another mass shooting in California, Obama delivered a 13 minute address in an effort to call for calm.
In the face of increased violence from ISIL, as Obama called them, he asked the American people to respect one another and steer away from hate. This below from the Washington Post:
In a rebuke to critics who have called his approach weak, Obama said the campaign to defeat terrorists will “not depend on tough talk or abandoning our values or giving in to fear. Instead, we will prevail by being strong and smart, resilient and relentless.”
And in a campaign season replete with escalating rhetoric, the president urged the public not to react with fear that could ignite anger against Muslims, which he said would provide ballast to the Islamic State’s propaganda campaign.
Of course anyone who believes Trump should be the next president will no doubt say Obama isn’t doing enough. Should he just build a wall around the entire US Trumpsters?
