You may have seen our Morning Spice from earlier that led with Mark Zuckerberg and his wife pledging to give away 99% of their wealth to charitable causes. Very noble guys, although this $10 million promises to be worth every penny.
Zuckerberg is the money behind Fwd.us, a group that lobbies on behalf of immigration reform. Not the kind that Trump believes in – building walls and banning every Syrian – but rather the type that tackles this exact kind of ignorance. Politico reports:
Fwd.us is looking to counter the anti-immigration reform rhetoric in the GOP primary and lay the groundwork for an overhaul of the country’s immigration laws in early 2017 once the next president takes office…
“It’s a good time to inform people of the stakes,” said Rob Jesmer, a veteran Republican political operative and campaign manager at Fwd.us. “There is a lot of focus on one candidate, frankly,” he added of Trump, “(but) there are several who are out of the mainstream. … From a policy situation if we nominate any of those people we are going to lose. No two ways about it.”
I think if Trump makes it to the White House the whole world loses. It’s like when your school jokingly voted that kid in as a prefect, then had to spend the entire year listening to them ramble on during Friday assembly. Funny at first, but that shit gets old very quickly.
Here’s hoping that Zuckerberg’s riches, alongside other current contributors like Bill Gates, can help turn the tide against the populist and ignorant rhetoric dominating the American political battle at present.
