It’s amazing how you can be a fan favourite with a (relatively) clean public image, then in a matter of days be embroiled in a massive scandal that will irrevocably change your life.
James Deen has long been regarded as one of porn’s good guys, journalists praising his bucking of the trend when it comes to male actors. That all changed after his ex-girlfriend, porn actress Stoya, sent out these tweets on Saturday:
Another ex-girlfriend and porn actress Joanna Angel added her voice to those supporting Stoya, with this from the Daily Beast:
Though Angel declined to comment, years ago she allegedly warned adult actress Sydney Leathers to steer clear of Deen. “She told me when I first got into the business that I should avoid him—that he has boundary issues, basically that he tries to break women,” Leathers told The Daily Beast. “I took it to mean that he is dangerous.”
Some came to the defence of Deen and argued these were bitter exes, but a third voice has added further credence to the claims. Here’s adult actress Ashley Fires:
“The reason I put him on my ‘no list’ was because he almost raped me,” said Fires. “The only time I’d ever seen this guy, he walked into the green room at Kink [studios], picks up another performer like a caveman, grabs her by the hair, and takes her off somewhere… and I can only imagine.”
“Later on that night, I was getting out of the shower of the communal bathroom at Kink, I reach for my towel to dry off, and he comes up from behind me and pushes himself and his erection into my butt,” she continued. “He pushes me against the sink and starts grabbing on me and I was like, ‘No, no, no James, no,’ and he released me from his grasp, and says, ‘You know, later if you want to fuck around I’m in room whatever-it-was. I was like, ‘Fuck you.’ I didn’t even know this guy, he was so out of line and entitled with my body.”
A fourth has also come forward, Tori Lux, who says that Deen beat and sexually assaulted her back in 2011 on the set of a major porn film. All this has resulted in Deen being dropped by one of his biggest contracts with bondage pornography studio Kink. Below from Jezebel:
Our performers deserve not only safe sets, but the ability to work without fear of assault. Rape or sexual assault, with or without a safe-word, off-set or on, should never be accepted as a hazard of adult production. While many of the allegations against Deen are new, the pattern is alarming. Over the coming weeks and months, we will review our Model Bill of Rights to strengthen rights of performers off-set, and work with the larger industry to help performers to have been assaulted to more easily come forward.
Whilst many are surprised by these allegations coming out so thick and fast Deen has been dropping hints on his Twitter feed over the years:
His responses to the claims thus far:
Looks like karma may finally be catching up with young James and, whilst it’s ‘innocent until proven guilty’, if Bill Cosby has taught us anything it’s that once the floodgates open the truth usually comes pouring out.
