The SAPS have come under fire for what a Cape Town family claims is a sustained example of police brutality, their Elsies River home raided more than 20 times in the past two years alone.
The area is notorious for its gang activity, although the Bruwers claim there is no reason for the persistent raids or use of force to interrogate those inside. eNCA with more:
According to Natasha Bruwers, the police began bashing through their front walls and kicking down the doors in August 2013.
She claims they didn’t have search warrants and have never found anything illegal on the premises.
Several raids later, the Bruwers installed security cameras.
The cameras caught the following incident on film.
IPID’s [Independent Police Investigative Directorate] head office says several incidents will now be investigated dating back to 2013.
Bruwers intends suing the SAPS for damages and applying for an urgent interdict preventing the unit from entering her premises without a search warrant.
