A creative genius, Patrick Fallon is known throughout the advertising industry for his sharp imagination. He passed away at the age of 70 last week.
Co-founder of the Minnesota-based creative agency, Fallon, back in 1981, Patrick was credited with lifting the Minneapolis creative scene to a national prominence. He built inspired campaigns for big brands such as Porsche, MTV and Miller Lite throughout three decades. Fallon’s CEO, Mike Buchner, had this to say:
We are devastated by the loss of our iconic leader. He was our inspiration, our fire in the belly, our eternal conscience and the head of our Fallon family.
With a reputation for being brash, not thinking twice about luring national clients from as far as Madison Avenue, he often spoke of his dislike for mediocrity.
Fallon is a timeless tribute to dreamers everywhere: To those who accomplish what others believe to be impossible. To the men and women of muscular intellect who defy mediocrity in what they achieve and how they achieve it.
Here’s an insight into some of the Man’s best work:
Honestly now
This iconic magazine ad was created in the early 1990s to harken back to Porsche’s legacy as a classic luxury car brand in the face of growing competition.
Perception vs. Reality
Rolling Stone, struggling with a perception that its readers were hippies, commissioned Fallon to create this provocative campaign in 1985.
Herding Cats
The simple but hilarious premise of a posse of cowboys chasing felines across the plains in this EDS ad got big laughs during the 2000 Super Bowl.
Buddy Lee
In 1998, Fallon reprised the Buddy Lee doll mascot for Lee jeans for an inventive campaign that involved a 6-minute mock-umentary, movie trailers and a heroic folk ballad.
BMW Films
Fallon created a series of cinematic online short films starring celebrities like Madonna, Mickey Rourke and Clive Owen that boosted BMW’s lagging sales in the early 2000’s.
