If you’re looking at recent successful exports from our shores one name springs to mind, Trevor taking over The Daily Show from Jon Stewart and singularly causing an increase in Google searches for ‘is South Africa a country’.
After two months at the helm it hasn’t been all roses, ratings showing a significant decrease in viewership. We covered those numbers HERE, but it’s worth mentioning again that total viewers have dropped by 37% since his inaugural show.
At least Trevor is coming home shortly to perform in the Comedy Central International Comedy Festival in Jozi next week, having this to say in an interview with News24:
Noah said this past month had taught him how thick-skinned he was becoming and needed to be…
“It’s been the proverbial roller coaster ride so far. So much to get used to; so much learning. However, the most important thing is that it’s been exciting. It’s still becoming real.
“When a show has to go out every day, there is very little time to look around and see where you are. You just focus on making the best show you can”…
So what drives Noah? “Generally Uber,” he joked. “Jokes aside, I am driven not to let people down, especially with being The Daily show host. I feel a huge responsibility to make a great show.”
Whilst those numbers aren’t ideal it seems he still has the support of those that matter, including the top brass at the channel on which he stars:
So far, so good, said Comedy Central president Michele Ganeless. “I couldn’t be happier,” she told TheWrap, adding that Noah offered “a more global … millennial perspective”.
That ‘millennial perspective’ is clear to see when you consider that his on-demand streaming has risen by as much as 44%.
We can also be sure that he will receive a hero’s welcome when he takes to the stage in Jozi – as long as he doesn’t put on one of those awful fake American accents some of our other famous exports are prone to doing.
