If there’s one city in the world that I look to for inspiration on anything, it’s Tokyo. One day I’ll get there.
The country’s latest effort to take over the fashion-forward world comes in the form of an extremely intricate, yet extravagant art form: nail art. This year’s Tokyo Nail Expo had everything, from nine-inch talons encrusted with flowers and pom-poms to shorter versions speckled with jewels. It’s Asia’s largest nail art fair and it’s set to impress.
This year’s theme was Happy Kawaii. ‘Kawaii’ translates to cute and that’s Japanese women’s goal: Not sexy, but rather cute – and it’s the highest form of compliment.
Here are some of the craziest nails we could find:
Origami Nails
Everything-At-Once Nails
Edwina-Scissorhand Nails
Cuddly-Toy Nails
Pop-pom Floral Nails
And just to make you feel like your nails are a little normal:
Listen, I’m not saying I want to now get my nails done in such a way, but if I ever had to, I’d know where to look for some damn fine inspiration.
