In my dreams I don’t have to park my car, I have one of my minions do it for me as I’m whisked off carried atop a throne.
But to each their own of course, and if you’re a fan of parking like a glove (the original boss HERE) then you’re going to want to meet Alistair Moffatt. That would be the man who holds the title of world’s best car parker, proof below from the Telegraph:
At half past eight this morning, in the car park of the Brooklands Motor Museum, stunt driver Alastair Moffatt reversed a classic Mini at 40 miles (64 km) per hour, pulled the handbrake and spun it into a space with only 34cm of room to play with – breaking the world record for the tightest parallel park.
And now for the technique, dished out by the man himself:
“It was really good!” says Moffatt, “and doing it in reverse is pretty tricky – it’s a different technique. I essentially have to put the car into a controlled spin; helicopter it towards the space and then pirouette it in.”
“You reverse at forty, flick it, continue with that spin and then handbrake it back around and into the space. I use a steering wheel knob, for much the same reason as you’d find one on a forklift truck – so I can more effectively steer the car. And I’ve also got the button on the handbrake taped up, so I don’t have to push that in. But, other than that, I did it in what is fundamentally just a classic, standard mini.”
Now if you’re thinking you could give this man a run for his money you’ll need yourself a MINI, something we can help you with. All you have to do is email Seth Rotherham at editor@2oceansvibe.com with the subject line ‘About that MINI’.
Discount sorted, parking wise you’re on your own.
