If you like beer, this story may bring a smile to your parched lips – although we imagine there was a fair bit of wastage too.
Residents of Hillbrow in Jozi probably thought it was a case of Christmas come early after an SABMiller truck smashed into a police van this morning. The result was a rather predictable one as News24 reports:
Police said locals were seen collecting what was left of the spilled beer moments after the collision.
Police spokesperson sergeant Mdudzi Zondo said the police van was travelling through the intersection at Esselen Street and Banket Street when it was involved in a collision with the truck that “came from nowhere”.
“We suspect the driver lost control and was unable to turn at the intersection,” Zondo said.
Police said a dozen onlookers rushed to the truck to salvage what was left of the beer.
Thankfully no one was injured in the crash or the ensuing scramble for the golden nectar. We would spare a thought for SABMiller but they seem to be doing OK financially at the moment.
