There’s nothing worse than seeing notices about lost pets. How many people see them and how many of them lead to the pets being found and returned? A new local app is finding great success with lost pets being found and returned.
SA’s fastest growing private social network for neighbourhoods, OurHood, is used largely to unite communities against crime. But it seems the app’s added functionality – allowing neighbours to discuss everything from sharing nannies to lost pets – is gaining massive traction.
The OurHood Lonehill neighbourhood in Johannesburg allowed us to post this recent exchange, resulting in a pet being returned to its owner.
According to OurHood:
In the neighbourhood of Lonehill, Johannesburg, local resident Lindsey went for a walk in the Lonehill Park, where she found a cockatiel. Lindsey was sure it was someone’s pet, as it looked well cared for. She took it to Brant Park vet and tried to figure out who the owner of the bird could be – calling all the vets and LRA. When nothing helped, she remembered OurHood.
She put a short post (above) into Lonehill’s noticeboard about it. Just a few hours later Jason, another resident of Lonehill, responded, saying that he had seen a notice in his complex for a lost cockatiel. He gave Lindsey the phone number on the notice and the rest is history. Needless to say the cockatiel’s owner joined OurHood that same day!
With the post made on Lonehill’s private OurHood noticeboard, all signed up neighbours of Lonehill were informed about the lost cockatiel at once – a quick way to reach a huge bunch of people who really can help. Thanks Lindsey and Jason for the teamwork and being such great neighbours!
The more neighbours you have in your private OurHood network, the better it will work. Go and invite your friends and keep on posting about lost/found pets. It’s worth it!
Such a cool, feel good story!
All OurHood users are verified, to ensure that you really are speaking to your REAL neighbours. Unlike Facebook and Whatsapp, categories and settings ensure you only get notifications about the things you care about.
