Ah, the age old conundrum of wondering whether or not it’s worth going to that jol when you know it’s a R150 Uber ride each way. It better be popping by the time I arrive or else I’m tucking into the hard stuff and heading home a mess.
Well worries such as those look set to be a thing of the past for six cities in the US, a new feature called UberEvents launching just in time for silly season. BusinessInsider with the scoop:
UberEvents lets party hosts pre-pay Uber rides for guests ahead of time.
Party-goers just put the code into the Uber app, and their ride is covered by the host…
Party planners or even HR departments can buy rides by filling out how many people will be going to a certain location and at what time. Uber only charges after for the number of rides taken, so if 50 percent of your guests end up driving or taking public transit, you only pay for what you use…
How bloody brilliant is this idea, right? Maybe parents who are worried about youngsters getting home safe from one of those rip-roaring house parties can organise with Uber and it’s problem solved.
And for those nights when after the show it’s the after party – just organise with Uber and make sure the VIPs make it back to yours. We all know the afterparty is where it really goes down…
Here’s hoping this feature finds its way to our shores very soon, those end-of-year work functions are just around the corner and UberEvents could be the best solution we’ve seen for all those pre- and post-jol transport problems.
