Stephen Fry will always polarise opinion, the eloquent and outspoken personality not afraid to tackle the sensitive subjects that many others happily avoid.
During his latest jaunt Down Under Fry sat down for a lengthy interview with Lateline and he was in fine voice. The 58-year-old dished the dirt on his sexual history, coming out as gay, struggling with alcohol addiction and his distaste for organised religion. He also spoke about his one time love for cocaine, with this below from the Guardian:
Fry had admitted to taking cocaine in Buckingham Palace, the House of Lords and House of Commons…
“I really do regret it but I’m very conscious of having to sound like someone who is a kind of sorrowing, apologetic figure, to say what a fool he has been, which is a boring thing to be. On the other hand suggesting there is anything good to be had from these narcotics, which I don’t believe”…
Fry said he never took cocaine while he was working, on a stage or in a television studio. “I would call it, rather creepily, ‘pudding’ – what you [Australians] would call a ‘sticky’ at the end of a meal. But I’m so glad it’s over. Ridiculous situation to be in and I’ve seen it’s done terrible harm to people.”
Settle in and wind down the rest of your Wednesday in the company of a great British mind.
