So the Boks arrived back home without great fanfare, a third place finish not really enough to draw a massive crowd.
It was a different story for the triumphant All Blacks, a hero’s welcome awaiting Richie and the boys. That included the airport staff in Auckland, the World Cup winners greeted with a haka on the tarmac. Here’s BBC:
Arriving in heavy rain on a black Air New Zealand jet this morning, the team was treated to a rendition of the Maori war dance by workers wearing hi-vis on the runway.
A further 4000 black-clad supporters were waiting inside the terminal for the nation’s beloved rugby heroes.
I’ll try and hide the immense envy and just say well played lads, you’ve earned it.
