Tell a tale of a police officer accepting a bribe and people will barely batter an eyelid, but how about organising an armed robbery at the station where you work?
30-year-old Mpho Matsoso has landed himself in some seriously hot water after he was arrested for ‘conspiring with armed suspects to rob his own police station’. Once the robbery was carried out Mpho tried to fool his co-workers by arriving at the station and opening a docket. eNCA with more:
Hawks spoksperson Lieutenant Robert Netshiunda said the Dunnottar police station was attacked on the night of 8 June this year during which [on-duty police officer Aaron Vusi] Mahlangu was shot eight times.
Netshiunda said that initially the motive of the attack was unknown but it had since emerged that the aim of the suspects was to get access to the station safe and steal firearms…
After three suspects were arrested a month later they began to blab, implicating Mpho in the crime:
“With the suspects confessing that they were assured by the arrested constable that only one female Sergeant would be working at the Community Service Centre, and that he would be on duty but patrolling outside, the suspects stormed the station and were puzzled to find Warrant Officer Mahlangu and another constable behind the CSC desk.
“The suspects started shooting, injuring Warrant Officer Mahlangu while the other member escaped unharmed. The brave Warrant Officer Mahlangu shot back until the suspects fled. The arrested constable fooled everyone by rushing back to the station and opened the case docket. The suspects confessed that they had planned to use the firearms to commit armed robbery in Mpumalanga.”
There’s unpopular at work for eating a co-worker’s potato salad, then there’s unpopular at work for causing someone to be shot eight times. I have a feeling the officers at the prison where he is hopefully headed may single him out for some special treatment.
