Mini’s strategy for its new generation of cars is to focus on volume instead of expanding into new niches. So, working with the reliability of Mini’s five superhero models, the brand has just released the latest open-top model which is to be released in South Africa during the first quarter of next year.
The soft-top version of the three-door hatchback has a slicker roof which has a new sliding function and can be opened via full electric operation in 18 seconds – but only at speeds of no more than 30kph.
Concentrating on volume, the new model is larger, measuring about 98mm longer, 44mm wider, and 1mm taller. It now has “optimised space comfort” on all four seats, with a larger adjustment range for the front seats, more comfortable entry and a longer seat surface for the rear passengers. And, even luggage space has been accounted for, boosted up to 215 litres with the roof up and 160 litres with the top down.
