There are few things as cringeworthy in this world as watching an episode of The X-Factor / Idols / SA Has Talent / The Voice (take your pick, they’re all the same shite) and seeing a wannabe stride up to the mic and tackle someone like Whitney Houston.
It inevitably ends in tears (which is the only reason I would ever watch), because taking on tracks from iconic artists requires balls of steel and a whole lot of talent.
When we heard Goldfish was taking on Nirvana and their 90s classic Heart Shaped Box we crossed our fingers and hoped for the best. We shouldn’t have bothered worrying, the dynamic duo putting their own spin on things and producing another absolute gem.
You can hear that track below as well as the rest of their latest Submerged Sunday mix – one full hour of the grooviest beats going around.
Their cover also introduces the world to 18-year-old superstar in the making Julia Church, adding her vocals to the track and showing us why she has been accepted into Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA).
Heart Shaped Box is the headliner for the new compilation ‘Goldfish Presents Organic House 3’, released today and already sitting at number 2 on SA’s iTunes (tucked nicely between Adele and Black Coffee).
That compilation features 44 tracks of awesome Organic House goodness ready for southern hemisphere braai’s and tempting northern hemisphere people into buying air tickets to Cape Town for Submerged Sundays.
Head on over to iTunes and support these local legends, then check out and subscribe to their Soundcloud page for their latest uploads.
