The Cape Epic is stuff legends are made of. It was the first race of its kind in South Africa, and, what began in 2004, has grown exponentially, becoming the most televised mountain bike race in the world. and it’s next accomplishment? It has taken on the evolving technological world and created its first ever fully immersive interactive encounter: a 360 degree experience of the Prologue part of the race. Using the mouse/keyboard, the viewer can check out all aspects of the race from the perspective of a rider’s helmet. It’s pretty legit.
The annual mountain bike race is held over eight days and covers over 700km, and attracts professional mountain bikers from around the world. A different course every year, one things is for sure: it stays in the Western Cape and has been described as the ‘Tour de France of mountain biking’.
The next Cape Epic will go down next year in March and will end off at the Meerendal Wine Estate in Durbanville.
