As the world’s media gathered this morning hoping to feed on the frenzy that was Oscar’s release they were greeted with bad news. Oscar had been sent home from the Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre hours before the release date to avoid a ‘media scrum’, which would have made the makers of this site very happy.
Introducing Support For Oscar, a site that allows users to post messages of support for the one-time hero. Here’s the banner that sits up top the home page to greet new visitors…
One can then do a little exploring between the different categories, some of which include ‘art’, ‘videos’, ‘quotes’ and ‘messages of support’. I did a little digging into ‘art’ and stumbled across this, an amalgamation of Bruno Mars’s lyrical genius and what I can only assume is a kid with some tracing paper. In times of need who doesn’t draw on Bruno right?
The first post on the site dates back to June 11, 2013, four months after that fateful shooting on Valentine’s Day. Since then the messages of support number well into the thousands, people from around the world offering their kind words.
If words won’t do the trick you could always make a video, this gem from last year.
Feel free to do your own digging on Support For Oscar to see what you can uncover. I’m pretty sure he’ll have the internet up and running at his uncle’s mansion so who knows, he might end up reading your message of support in the coming days.
