Birdwatchers are usually a rather level-headed bunch, although these two Norwegians didn’t exactly cover themselves in glory.
Instead it is a Thai construction worker who has come out the hero, his selfless dedication to the cause drawing praise from around the world. The video has been viewed millions of time after being posted to an amateur photographer’s Facebook page. Here’s Sky News:
The tourists had taken their cameras to mudflats in southern Thailand, but quickly got into trouble. The pair found themselves in waist-deep mud and unable to move.
A construction worker, who was returning from a fishing trip, spotted the Norwegians and went to help. After initially trying to pull the pair out of the mud, he then took their camera equipment to safety before embarking on another plan.
The Thai man, named as Chat Ubonchinda, lay down in the mud and allowed the tourists to use his body to pull themselves out.
Most people caught in tricky birdwatching situations in Thailand involve a rather different kind of bird – at least this one bucks that trend.
