Uber has got game – and its latest player will be in the form of a delivery service. Referred to as the UberRUSH delivery service, two new cities (Chicago and San Francisco) will be added – having started in New York in April – and offers consumers same-day delivery of products either with bikes or cars.
This means that business owners can make faster, cheaper and more reliable deliveries, something that the service has pretty much unknowingly been doing already in South Africa (this one time, I got my bags picked up at Rosebank Station and taken to where I was staying in Parkhurst so I didn’t have to carry them around all day – it was a beautiful, smooth and reliable experience).
But UberRUSH is only available for businesses to reach consumers. As Uber explains, this is definitely the way of the future:
Think about all the times you hop in the car to pick up groceries, house supplies, or Sunday night takeout. These little runs seem harmless but they add up. Many trips are just to move things from A to B. We’re wasting thousands of hours and gallons taking them.
If every local business delivered, we’d all save time and energy. But most simply can’t. Day-to-day operations are already complicated and delivery can cause all sorts of logistical headaches. There has never been a simple local delivery solution. Until now.
How does it work? Well, Uber charges the businesses to deliver packages to the customers. Uber then shares the fees with the couriers.
In a recent interview with USA TODAY, Uber investor Chris Sacca said he believes Uber has the potential to become even bigger than Facebook — which today is worth more than $264 billion.
This definitely is a game changer and we, obviously, cannot wait for the service to hit South African shores.
