Dashcam videos often provide some top class entertainment – meteors zooming across the sky and Mickey Mouse and Spongebob brawling to name but a few.
Then there’s all the other things they capture, some of the more unscrupulous goings on in this country for example. The thing is those are just the tip of the iceberg, because more and more people are getting on board with the idea for insurance purposes. Take this from the Guardian:
“Dashcams give drivers an added level of protection to guard against unexpected malicious events which they might otherwise struggle to prove,” says Mark Godfrey, an insurance director. “By having a visual record, it is far easier for an insurer to come to the right conclusion and avoid the affected motorists being unfairly penalised by a potential fraudster.”
In addition to the peace of mind they offer, these gadgets can save you cash, as a number of insurance providers offer a reduction in your premiums for having one on board.
How about when you return to your parked car and some thoughtful motorist has dinged you and buggered off without so much as a note? Nabbed, just check the footage and write down the licence plate number:
Now you’re probably thinking that one of these gadgets is going to set you back quite a bit, most things that save you money usually costing you initially. That’s not always the case of course, because you can sort yourself an HD Car CCTV DVR Dash Cam with LCD Screen and Night Vision for as little as R599. Think about it, that’s basically one insurance claim in your lifetime and it’s paid for itself many times over.
Go on, everyone’s doing it but this time they have sound reasoning behind them. Check out more on that dashboard camera HERE but be warned, anyone using one to record Taylor Swift singalongs will be judged.
