If you’re wondering why the trains in Cape Town are running a little off schedule this morning you can thank three teenagers, the trio arrested for allegedly starting a fire at Muizenberg train station that destroyed three carriages yesterday evening.
Authorities were notified of the fire at around 6PM last night, the young pyromaniacs then caught by metro police as they fled the scene of the crime. Over to News24:
[The city’s fire and rescue services spokesperson Theo Layne said] “We are on the scene. We have three carriages burning. All passengers were evacuated prior to our arrival. No injuries were reported and the electricity to the train must be isolated first before any fire fighting takes place”…
“We were unable to ascertain from staff on the scene as to what the cause of the fire was,” Layne said at the time.
Twitter users were quick to share pictures of the blaze…
There will be many disgruntled public transport users this morning, as well as three very angry sets of parents. Not cool kids, if you’re going to burn something let’s stick to things that don’t inconvenience thousands of other Capetonians.
