Sometimes a story comes along so outlandish that you couldn’t even make it up. This, dear readers, is one such story.
As everyone digs deeper into the world of Chris Harper-Mercer, the gunman who murdered nine people at Umpqua Community College before taking his own life, it appears that his mother has some serious questions to answer. We’ll get to that Trump business later, but first up let’s examine her passion for gun ownership.
All of this information comes from Laurel Harper’s Yahoo Answers account, where she has answered over 34 000 questions during a 10-year period. Off to Gawker about those guns then:
Answering a question about state gun laws several years ago, Ms. Harper, a registered nurse, took a jab at “lame states” that impose limits on keeping loaded firearms in the home, and noted that she had AR-15 and AK-47 semiautomatic rifles, along with a Glock handgun. She also indicated that her son, who lived with her, was well versed in guns, citing him as her source of information on gun laws, saying he “has much knowledge in this field”…
“I keep two full mags in my Glock case. And the ARs & AKs all have loaded mags,” Harper wrote in one answer. “No one will be ‘dropping’ by my house uninvited without acknowledgement.”
That’s maybe a tad alarming, but then you must consider this:
Harper’s account, which has since been set to private, …“mostly [answers] medical questions from strangers, occasionally citing her own difficulties raising a troubled child.” Some of these included answers in which she would cite an (unnamed) son with Asperger’s syndrome who had been “among other things, a head-banger” but was “very intelligent” and now in college.
No one is saying anything disparaging about a child with Asperger’s syndrome, the problem comes with the ‘troubled child’ bit. If those were the words she used why did she assist him in gathering a collection of 14 firearms?
And now what you all came here for, her love for Donald Trump and how she passed that on to dear Christopher:
In one piece of advice for parents with autistic children, Harper wrote of her affinity for Donald Trump:
Fact: Before my son was even born, I was reading out loud to him from Donald Trump’s The Art of the Deal. And as for the “gesture effect,” I was practically a mime. And now my son invests in the stock market along with me, turns a profit and is working on a degree in finance. His language and reading skills are phenomenal.
You know what skills of his aren’t phenomenal? Basic human empathy and decency, you may just have failed on those fronts Laurel.
We eagerly await The Donald’s response to this one, no doubt he will try and find a way to spin it to his advantage whilst calling someone an idiot.
