Oh goodness, festivals just aren’t what they used to be.
For around 22 000 people, Monday is going to be that little more difficult to handle. Rocking the Daisies’ tenth annual festival went down this past weekend just outside Darling and, while some festival-goers were in their element with a fantastic selection of music, sun and some of the hottest people around, others happened to run out of luck.
Around 25 arrests were made and 31 drug cases opened at Darling police station after a cluster of policemen and women skulked around the festival in search of any wrong doings.
Their biggest score? While no ‘serious’ crimes were reported, the police struck gold when they found drugs worth R55 000 in an, ahem, VW Beetle on Thursday. Profiling much?
The score included 95 MDMS (It’s MDMA, boys) tablets, 100 ecstasy tablets, 50 LSD strips, 23.5grams of rock, and two sachets of dagga. Haha, I love it when they report drugs.
The chick, 28, is from Muizenberg.
Her vehicle, a VW Beetle was searched at a roadblock at the entrance to the farm where the festival was held. She is due to appear in the Darling Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday on a charge of possession of drugs.
Other drugs found were magic mushrooms, cocaine, blue gum, ecstasy, MDMA, LSD, and dagga. In one instance, a kid was merely smoking a joint in his campsite when police walked passed and arrested him – he was only set for release Monday morning.
Honestly, it’s all a bit bullshit. People were stumbling around completely blind drunk, yet a little bit of grass and BAM you’re in jail for two nights. Sick Sad World we live in, hey?
