A reaction guard for the security firm EPR was involved in a fatal scuffle at around 4am this morning in Krugersdorp, security footage capturing the exchange with a break-in suspect.
The guard was responding to a call from a house in Warwick Street when he saw a man crouching next to one of the windows. TimesLive describes the incident as follows:
He told the man to get down on his knees – and the man decided he’d rather charge and fight for the security guard’s gun.
The struggle ended when the guard managed to get a shot off. The intruder was later declared dead at the scene.
This was the second time this morning the security company was called out to the property – they had previously been called just before 2am, but the suspect fled.
A loss of life is always tragic but one should recognise the bravery of the security guard involved too. Their work often goes unheralded and let’s be honest, none of us are too keen to be out there in the wee hours doing their job.
