When you’re in the midst of your fifteen minutes of fame you’ll want to wring every last bit of publicity out of it. Enter Ronnie Pickering, the unlikely YouTube star whose rant has gone viral and been seen across the world.
Whilst he hasn’t been vilified Walter Palmer style many have pointed out that Ronnie might still need his head checked, rage like his surely a sign of some deep-rooted issues. First up his reasoning behind the foul-mouthed tirade from the Telegraph:
Mr Pickering has spoken out for the first time, apologising for his outburst but saying the other driver is still a “muppet”.
“He really got to me. I am not an aggressive guy. He was baiting me so I thought I would give him a few of my thoughts,” Mr Pickering [said].
“I was on my way home from Asda in Bilton. I heard a tap, which I thought was the driver using his boot to hit my car.
“I don’t know why he did this. He overtook a load of cars that was queueing. He encroached into my safety gap.
“I was wanting to turn right, but he wouldn’t go. I felt as though he was baiting me.’
That’s all well and good but just who is the man behind the wheel of the now infamous Citroen Picasso? We know he is a 54-year-old father of one, lives in Hull and has a girlfriend who has seen one too many meltdowns behind the wheel to even bother getting worked up any more. Some more titbits gathered from his neighbours, Ronnie apparently not playing ball on his personal life:
On his garden gate, a sign pointed to his ‘traditonal sense of humour’, reading: “Wanted good woman. Must be able to clean, cook, sew, dig worms and clean fish. Must have a boat and motor. Please send picture of boat and motor.”
Mr Pickering’s neighbours insisted he was a “nice guy”, but said he had been known to occasionally lose his temper.
One explained: “Ronnie Pickering is Ronnie Pickering. Who is he? He would like people to think they know him…
“He is in his 50s now. Ronnie has a girlfriend and a son. He is not a well man now. He used to have a lovely garden, but like men of his age he can’t do it any more. He has cut right back.
“He may have lost his temper, but who doesn’t. He was maybe having a bad day. Ronnie is a nice guy.”
Somewhere out there a TV exec is trying to ink the deal that sees Ronnie and the moped driver duke it out in the ring. Watch this space…
